Tales of the World RPG?

Ugh. I hate having a cold. My sinuses have been having a field day and my nose won't quit being a nuisance. I'm really glad that I don't have work tomorrow or else I'd have to take a whole box of tissues!

Other than that I'm considering starting an RPG. It kind of depends on whether anyone on LJ would be interested and keep it active. I have the concept and series and all down. At which point I guess I'm obligated to say....

My idea was for a "Tales of" RPG in the same vein as "Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology" where you form fighting parties with other players' characters and complete both minor quests (like delivering goods or defeating nuisance monsters) and ones that have to do with an overlying plot that would be planned by the moderators. Yeah, I hate crossovers, but with "Tales" it kind of works because all of the games have the same basic mechanics and there's an official game crossover. If not for that, I have to praise the game for at least not sending Kratos off into outerspace. (Yes, I saw the opening for Radiant Mythology 2, and it made me immensely happy, even if Lloyd kinda sucks in RM.)

The only characters taken for sure so far are Yuan and Tear. Anyone else is fair game.

(Sorry to respond with my writing journal, but I'm too lazy to log-out.)

Ah, by formal, I meant requiring logs (as in, third person RPing) and journals (first person rping within character journal). For some reason, the more informal rps just do rping in a central community like compound_rp, only without the logs) and don't do either journals or logs.

I figured as much; allowing for more than one version of each character is basically a staple of the dressing rooms. I'm not sure what else to add in that department, sorry.

Oh, that. I was going to have quest logs be in third person, but it looks like the first person examples in the community you linked work just as well as (if not better than) third person would. Character journals would be first person, but they would be completely optional and NOT required.

And there wouldn't be a post length minimum like "write at least 3 paragraphs" or anything. I hate those... they're limiting...

I guess I was probably going for semi-formal. You'd have to request that another character join your party for a quest from that character's player but as far as characters just getting together and chatting around town or planning a festival or something, it'd be pretty lenient. Major plot-related quests would be planned by the mods but everything else is up to whoever wants to do it?

That sounds pretty good to me. ♥ I'd definitely be joining because paragraph lengths kill me too.

I don't have anything else at the moment, but I'll let you know if I think of other stuff!

(Oh, and I know you mentioned holding characters... Hm. I know I can pull Genis off, but I'll let you know later.)
